Scott C. Mitchell, J.D., Chair, Houston, Texas
I became involved with ATA about seven years ago when my doctor encouraged me to offer my law and CPA skills and experiences to benefit the organization. I began by organizing some fundraising events in Houston and was later elected a director and chairman of ATA's Revenue Development Committee. This group understands that money is the mother's milk of nonprofits, as it is in politics. And our goal is to raise as much as we can for tinnitus research.
A group of talented and dedicated professionals make up the ATA staff and it is a real joy to work with them all. They and the board of directors have shown me again and again that everyday people, focused on a common goal, and with sufficient zeal, can move mountains to accomplish anything. Based on the science, I think a cure for tinnitus is well within reach. Like Donna Brown's recent brave ascent up the slopes of Mount Rainier on behalf of ATA, achieving our goal is a matter of resourcefully trudging our way through the obstacles and keeping our eyes on the summit ahead.
